Homma Malhoum, by Haitham Sa’eid
"What do they have to do with us…? Why do they desire to take us…those who are jealous and tease us." The singer asks his beloved. His passion, love and tenderness for her is growing too much to bear, but harsh words from disapproving outsiders "reach us and separate us." "I swear, a night without you is not fair, and you melt me by coming closer to me," he croons. While they wait to be together, the couple hides behind the anonymity of the moon, where they can be free to enjoy their love for each other without the disapproving glances that daylight brings.
A quick cultural note, for those of you who aren’t used to watching Arabic language music videos, the couple in this video is Muslim, however, many videos do not depict women in hijab. It’s a refreshing look to see a couple innocently in love, and we question along with the singer, “Why can’t they just leave them alone?”
